This year the AMANI Afrikafest took place for the fifth time in Weimar. Musicians from Niger, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Turkey and Germany entered the stage together to mirror the wide spectrum of African music. Highlight of this year’s Afrikafest was the performance of the trio ANEWAL, with their lead singer Anivolla. The world musicstage can’t be imagined without him anymore.
Other great performances were given by Gungun, Adama, Mukhambira Band, Goblet Drums Theatre, Dean Ruddock and Margarita & Modostko.
The Afrikafest has been hosted since 2017 and is backed by the Fachdienst für Migration und Integration in Weimar und dem Weimarer Land.
Originally the Afrikafest was initiated on the occasion of the Africa Day. Also known as African Freedom Day or African Liberation Day, this day is celebrated in remembrance of the foundation ceremony of the African Union (OAU) on 25th of May 1963. It is celebrated in various countries of Africa as well as all over the world by people who have a connection to Africa or are sympathetic to it.
AMANI is a Bantu word (Swahili) that means peace. With the annual Afrikafest we want to contribute to a clearer understanding between different cultures and shine a light on various aspects of Africa. Many countries of Africa but especially subsaharan Africa recognize the word AMANI.
